About Me

Gigi Mann MBIAE

MY STORY

In my early 20s I suffered from a hormonal imbalance which resulted in long thick dark hairs appearing all across my face and neck.

It completely shook my confidence and I struggled for many years stuck in an endless cycle of threading, plucking and waxing. This only seemed to aggravate my skin and laser treatments failed to completely remove these hairs for good.

That was until I discovered electrolysis and was pleasantly surprised to find that it offered permanent results and complete removal of unwanted hair - I was however skeptical! But I took the plunge and after completing a course of treatments spaced out evenly over the course of a year, I was finally free of the unwanted facial hair! It never grew back again.

Electrolysis really does work! I can attest to that first hand! It gave me a newfound confidence in my appearance and ability to enjoy life. I knew then that I wanted to help others be free of unwanted hairs.

How does Electrolysis work?

In short, we insert a fine probe into the hair follicle growing unwanted hair and destroy it at its root. Once destroyed, that hair follicle won't grow another hair again! Hence - permanent removal!

Electrolysis is actually the name of the chemical process which occurs when we apply an electric current directly to tissue salts, moisture and salt-water solution.

Step 1 - We apply a small electric current to the base of the hair follicle using a very fine needle (the same thickness as the hair being treated).

The needle is inserted through the skin's natural opening of the hair follicle (it does not puncture the skin).

There are different types of small electric current we can apply, but the most common and effective type is short wave diathermy. â€‹

When this current is applied it generates heat. The moisture in the tissue at the base of the hair follicle is heated and not the needle.

Step 2 - Heat destroys the hair follicle's ability to grow another hair again!

This means the heat vaporises the moisture in the tissue and causes cells at the base of the follicle to break down and proteins start to congeal.

All of this is what we want! Because it DESTROYS the hair without damaging the surrounding tissue!

Resulting in permanent removal of that hair that has been treated! It will never grow back again!

Step 3 - The skin begins to heal

Normal post electrolysis reactions vary from person to person however it is is normal to experience some:

- slight swelling to the area (this is just lymph flooding to the area)

- slight redness (due to additional blood flow to the area)

Our bodies are very clever! There are four stages involved in the skin healing process.

1. Network of fibres begin to form over trapped cells and bridge the opening of the hair follicle that was treated.

2. Cells begin to divide, new cells begin to take their place. For some clients who are particularly sensitive they may see tiny scab dots appear on the surface of their skin - this is nothing to be alarmed by it is a good sign that the skin is healing and the electrolysis treatment has been effective.

3. There is a total renewal of the epidermal surface of the skin and white blood cells in your skin ingest the discarded tissue that was damaged by the heat formed by the current.

4. Skin has been restored and you are left with PERMANENT REMOVAL OF THE HAIR!

Aloe Vera

Step 4 - AFTER CARE IS ABSOLUTELY KEY!

I cannot stress how important aftercare is! After treatment a smoothing aloe vera gel or witch hazel gel is applied to the skin using a clean piece of cotton wool. This prevents infection and promotes skin healing.

Furthermore, it is CRUCIAL that you avoid the following for the first 48 hours after treatment:

1. direct sun exposure or tanning

2. make up or harsh chemicals

3. swimming pools, sauna or steam

4. intense exercise
